My name is Marc Hewitt; I’m a Solicitor in the Child-Care Department and one of the Deputy Department Managers. I have been at DMA LAW since August 2013 when I began as a paralegal. I gradually worked my way up the ladder through a training contract, with the support of DMA, to become a fully qualified Solicitor in March 2018. I worked in our civil litigation and crime departments before moving to Child-Care in early 2018.
I work predominately from our Chester le Street and Consett offices where I assist people who are involved in public law proceedings before the family court. This involves care proceedings, discharge applications, public law outline, child protection and special guardianship advice. I enjoy working with the wide range of clients from various backgrounds and supporting them right from the initial instruction through to representation in court. I have a keen interest in assisting those with additional need such as disabilities, learning difficulties and from a range of cultural backgrounds. I deal with cases involving neglect, non-accidental injury, murder, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol misuse, domestic abuse, and parental alienation.
I am also the chair for one of the subgroups at the Local Family Justice Board where I assist in learning and development of those across the family courts and organisation and delivery of our annual conferences. I am also a trustee for United For Children Northeast, a charity set up and ran by solicitors, barristers, and judges to assist those indeed across the region.
In my spare time I enjoy attending the gym before work on a morning (early bird catches the worm), visiting the cinema, attending, perhaps too many, concerts and gigs and going on holiday with my partner and friends.
