Job Opportunity: Legal Secretary

  • Location: One of our 6 office locations, to be agreed
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm with one hour for lunch (35 hours pw)
  • Job Type: Full time
  • Salary: Dependant on experience

More about the role:

The Legal Secretary will play an important role in supporting our specialist family law
team, ensuring the day-to-day business of the Department runs smoothly and
efficiently.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within
family law, working closely with an experienced and supportive team in a longestablished, North-East Law Firm.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Opening new family law files
  • Ensuring all client related details/documents are recorded and maintained within our
    Case Management System, LEAP
  • Transcribing dictation and completing electronic forms in a timely manner
  • Handling telephone enquires and taking clear, comprehensive messages
  • Processing card payments from clients
  • Completing filing, photocopying and faxing promptly and accurately
  • Meeting clients on behalf of fee earners to assist with document signing or providing
    general updates on file progress where required
  • To follow and adhere to accounts processes and procedures

Essential skills:

A minimum of two years’ secretarial experience/within a law firm will be required for this
position. In addition, the successful applicant should have:

  • Experience in private and legally aided family law work, or a willingness to build knowledge in these areas
  • Efficient transcription skills, or the ability to develop them
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage day-to-day tasks effectively
  • A good level of computer literacy, including confidence using bespoke case management systems
